Alaska Hall of Fame HS hoops coach Chuck White passes away

THE ANCHORAGE SPORTS COMMUNITY IS MOURNING THE PASSING OF FORMER EAST AND WEST HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL COACH CHUCK WHITE. WHITE PASSED AWAY MONDAY FROM COMPLICATIONS OF PARKINSON’S DISEASE. HE WAS 78 YEARS OLD.

WHITE’S TEAMS WON 18 STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS IN HIS 41 YEARS OF COACHING IN ALASKA. HIS TEAMS WON OVER 920 GAMES, WHILE AMASSING 29-20 WIN SEASONS, WITH JUST ONE OF THOSE SEASONS UNDER 500. WHITE IS ALSO KNOWN FOR OPENING THE DOOR FOR NUMEROUS KIDS TO GO TO COLLEGE AND CONTINUE PLAYING THE GAME. HE ALSO WAS A GREAT ATHLETE HIMSELF…EXCELLING AT THE UNIVERSITY OF IDAHO IN SEVERAL SPORTS. HE WAS A DOMINANT SOFTBALL PLAYER FOR YEARS IN ANCHORAGE.

WHITE WAS ELECTED TO THE ALASKA SPORTS HALL OF FAME IN 2011.

PRIVATE SERVICES WILL BE HELD FRIDAY. NO LOCAL SERVICES HAVE YET BEEN ANNOUNCED.
