WITH COVID MITIGATION IN PLACE, THE HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL SEASON BEGINS TODAY IN ANCHORAGE, BARRING ANY LAST-MINUTE POSITIVE TESTS.

THE SCHEDULE LOOKS LIKE THIS…DIMOND IS PLAYING AT SOUTH, EAST GOES TO EAGLE RIVER, WEST PLAYS AT CHUGIAK AND SERVICE HOSTS BARTLETT. GIRLS GAMES BEGIN AT 5:30, WITH THE BOYS FOLLOWING AT 7:30

ACCORDING TO THE MUNI’S COVID GUIDELINES, ANCHORAGE TEAMS WILL ONLY PLAY AGAINST OTHER ANCHORAGE TEAMS, AND EVERYONE INVOLVED MUST WEAR A MASK.

IT’S THE FIRST TASTE OF COMPETITION FOR ANCHORAGE TEAMS. HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE VALLEY AND ON THE KENAI PENINSULA HAVE BEEN PLAYING FOR A WEEK OR SO ALREADY.

 

HOCKEY OUTDOORS IS THE NAME OF THE GAME FOR THE TIME BEING, AND AS SUCH THE HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIPS ARE BEING HELD AT THE BONNIE CUSACK OUTDOOR RINKS NEAR MULCAHY. YESTERDAY IN SOMETIMES SINGLE-DIGIT TEMPERATURES, SOUTH/BARTLETT BLANKED DIMOND/WEST 2-0, AND CHUGIAK/EAGLE RIVER GOT BY SERVICE/EAST 3-1. THE TOURNAMENT CONTINUES TOMORROW, FRIDAY AND SATURDAY.
