Boggasch no longer interim, takes full reign of UAA Gymnastics

UAA GYMNASTICS INTERIM COACH MARIE-SOPHIE BOGGASCH CAN NOW TAKE THE INTERIM FROM HER TITLE. YESTERDAY, THE UNIVERSITY NAMED HER AS THE PERMANENT HEAD COACH OF THE SEAWOLF PROGRAM.

BOGGASCH, WHO TOOK OVER THE REIGNS FROM TANYA HO IN 2020, HAS SPEARHEADED A FUNDRAISING EFFORT TO SAVE THE PROGRAM AFTER UAA ADMINISTRATION FINGERED GYMNASTICS, ALONG WITH HOCKEY AND SKIING, AS COST-CUTTING EXPENDABLES. IT WAS ANNOUNCED LAST WEEK THAT GYMNASTICS HAD RAISED ENOUGH MONEY TO COMPETE THIS COMING SEASON, BUT STILL HAD TO RAISE ANOTHER 440 THOUSAND DOLLARS TO GO BEYOND THIS COMING SEASON.

Prior to taking over as interim head coach in July 2020, Boggasch spent two years as an assistant on the Seawolf staff under Ho. In her first season in 2019, UAA produced the top season in program history, setting 17 school records.

A four-year letterwinner, Boggasch graduated from UAA with a 4.00 grade-point average in 2016, earning her bachelor’s degree in aviation technology, and is a former commercial pilot. Boggasch also earned a masters of science degree in interdisciplinary studies — with a concentration on management, adult education and aviation — from UAA in 2020.
