Could State HS Nordic Ski Championships move from Kincaid Park? It’s a definite possibility…

Cross Country Ski

THE STATE HIGH SCHOOL NORDIC SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS COULD BE MOVING OUTSIDE OF ANCHORAGE AS THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC CONTINUES AND THE CITY’S EMERGENCY ORDER REMAINS IN PLACE.

ACCORDING TO THE ORDER, AN OUTDOOR TOURNAMENT OR EVENT BRINGING IN TEAMS FROM OTHER TOWNS ISN’T ALLOWED, SO THE ALASKA SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION IS LOOKING TO POSSIBLY MOVE THE SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS TO THE HATCHER PASS AREA IN THE MAT-SU BOROUGH, WHERE COVID GUIDELINES ARE A BIT MORE RELAXED.

THE CURRENT ANCHORAGE COVID GUIDELINES, PUT IN EFFECT FEBRUARY 1ST AND ENDING WHEN THEY’RE REVOKED, ARE ALSO PUTTING OTHER POST-SEASON EVENTS IN JEOPARDY, INCLUDING THE STATE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS. THEY COULD BE HELD IN THE MAT-SU AS WELL.
