Dimond wins CIC Hockey Championship Saturday. South take CIC Wrestling

AJ PFLUGH’S GOAL EARLY IN THE SECOND OVERTIME PERIOD SATURDAY NIGHT GAVE THE DIMOND LYNX A 2-1 WIN OVER SOUTH IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME OF THE COOK INLET CONFERENCE HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY TOURNAMENT.

THE TITLE WAS DIMOND’S 14TH OVERALL AND FIRST SINCE 2014.

AFTER A SCORELESS FIRST PERIOD, BRYCE MONREAN GAVE SOUTH A 1-0 LEAD WITH HIS GOAL AT 3:29 OF THE SECOND PERIOD. JACK DOLAN ANSWERED FOR THE LYNX AT 8:19 OF THE THIRD PERIOD, THEN THE TWO TEAMS PLAYED A SCORELESS 8 MINUTE OVERTIME AND 1 MINUTE AND 26 SECONDS OF THE SECOND WHEN PFLUGH SCORED AFTER A SOUTH TURNOVER DEEP IN THE WOLVERINE ZONE WITH AN ASSIST TO LANDON REED.

BOTH GOALTENDERS WERE STELLAR THE WHOLE GAME. DIMOND’S GAGE GUAY MADE 25 SAVES FOR THE WIN. SOUTH GOALIE EDDIE MAKAR HAD 24.

WITH NO LARGE SCHOOLS STATE TOURNAMENT BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC, DIMOND FINISHED THE SEASON 13-1. SOUTH WAS 10-3.

 

 

THE SOUTH WOLVERINES WON THE COOK INLET CONFERENCE WRESTLING TITLE SATURDAY AT SOUTH. THE WOLVERINES OUTLASTED EAST ON THE FINAL DAY, WITH EAGLE RIVER THIRD, CHUGIAK FOURTH AND WEST FIFTH. SOUTH HAD SEVEN WRESTLERS WIN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

THE GIRLS WRESTLING CHAMPS WERE FROM SERVICE. SOUTH WAS SECOND.

THERE WILL BE A WRESTLING STATE TOURNAMENT. IT’S SCHEDULED FOR MAY 21ST AND 22ND AT BARTLETT HIGH SCHOOL.
