FRESHMAN TATUM LUND SCORED TWICE, AND GOALTENDER BRIELLE AKAGI MADE 11 SAVES FOR A SHUTOUT AS TWO-TIME DEFENDING CHAMPION SOUTH/BARTLETT BLANKED SERVICE/EAST 5-0 AT THE GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY TOURNAMENT YESTERDAY.

THE GAMES ARE BEING PLAYED AT THE BONNIE CUSACK OUTDOOR RINK NEAR MULCAHY STADIUM.

IN THE NIGHTCAP, RIAN RUNYAN SCORED TWICE TO LEAD CHUGIAK/EAGLE RIVER TO A 4-0 WIN OVER DIMOND/WEST. GOALTENDER JULIA WOOLSEY MADE 15 SAVES FOR THE SHUTOUT WIN.

THE TOURNAMENT CONTINUES TOMORROW AS CHUGIAK/EAGLE RIVER PLAYS SOUTH/BARTLETT AT 4:15, FOLLOWED AT 6 BY DIMOND/WEST AND SERVICE/EAST.

SATURDAY, THE THIRD PLACE GAME IS AT 12:30, AND THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME IS AT 2.

 

THE US CROSS COUNTRY SKI TEAM WILL FEATURE 8 ALASKANS AS THEY HEAD TO THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS LATER THIS MONTH IN GERMANY.

SADIE MORBET BJORNSON, ROSIE BRENNAN AND HAILY SWIRBUL WILL BE PART OF THE WOMEN’S TEAM, WHILE THE MEN WILL FEATURE GUS SCHUMAKER, LOGAN HANNEMAN, DAVID NORRIS, SCOTT PATTERSON AND JC SCHOONMAKER.

4 MORE SKIERS COULD BE ADDED TO THE US TEAM BEFORE THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS.
