HS Hoops ready to compete as Covid restrictions ease; Coca Cola skiers tackle Alyeska

AFTER WEEKS OF PRACTICE-ONLY DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL GAMES WILL BE PLAYED STARTING THIS COMING TUESDAY IN THE ANCHORAGE SCHOOL DISTRICT.

THE ANNOUNCEMENT COMES AS THE RELAXATION OF COVID 19 RULES TAKE EFFECT NEXT WEEK IN THE MUNICIPALITY, ALLOWING FOR ANCHORAGE TEAMS TO PLAY ANCHORAGE TEAMS ONLY…NO TRAVELING TO OTHER TOWNS FOR GAMES, AND NO OUT-OF-TOWNERS WILL BE ALLOWED TO PLAY HERE. MASKS MUST BE WORN BY ALL PLAYERS, SUPPORT PERSONNEL AND COACHES.

KENAI PENINSULA AND MAT-SU BOROUGH SCHOOLS STARTED ALLOWING GAMES LAST WEEK. ONLY NORDIC SKIING, AN OUTDOOR SPORT, HAVE BEEN IN COMPETITIONS SO FAR IN ANCHORAGE.

ASD HOCKEY AND WRESTLING IS SCHEDULED TO BEGIN COMPETITIONS IN MARCH.

 

FINNIGAN DONLEY AND GEORGIA LANTZ FINISHED AS THE OVERALL WINNERS IN THE COCA-COLA CLASSIC DOWNHILL RACES AT ALYESKA THIS WEEK. THE SERIES BEGAN JANUARY 17TH, THEN WAS DELAYED BY WEATHER UNTIL WEDNESDAY WHEN GIANT SLALOM RACES WERE HELD. DONLEY WON BOTH THE SLALOM AND GIANT SLALOM AND LANTZ WAS A PODIUM FINISHER IN ALL FOUR RACES. THE NEXT QUALIFIER FOR THE WESTERN REGION CHAMPIONSHIPS IS THE ALYESKA CUP RACES FEBRUARY 9TH THROUGH THE 15TH.
