THE JUNEAU MIDNIGHT SUNS BECAME JUST THE THIRD TEAM IN 67 YEARS TO CAPTURE THREE STRAIGHT AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS, AS THEY DEFEATED WASILLA 13-8 TUESDAY NIGHT AT MULCAHY STADIUM. WEST IN THE 1960’S AND EAST IN THE EARLY 2000’S WERE THE OTHER TWO THREE-PEATERS. THE TOURNAMENT MVP WAS JUNEAU’S GABE STORIE. JUNEAU ADVANCES TO THE NORTHWEST REGIONAL TOURNAMENT NEXT WEEK IN LEWISTON, IDAHO.

AT THE MATSON INVITATIONAL, THE KETCHIKAN KINGS WENT UNDEFEATED AND FINISHED THE TOURNAMENT WITH A 6-1 WIN TUESDAY OVER EAGLE RIVER. BOTH TEAMS HAD JUST 4 HITS IN THE GAME, BUT KETCHIKAN WAS ABLE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF 6 WALKS. KINGS PITCHER WYATT BARAJAS STRUCK OUT 7 IN FIVE INNINGS OF WORK.

 

IN THE ALASKA BASEBALL LEAGUE LAST NIGHT, THE MAT-SU MINERS DOWNED THE CHUGIAK CHINOOKS 4-1 AT THE HERMON BROTHERS. THE REGULAR SEASON COMES TO AN END TONIGHT AT LEE JORDAN FIELD AS THE CHINOOKS HOST THE MINERS AT 6.
