UAA’S Caroline Kurgat won the 5,000 METER RUN in a time of 15:28.46, shattering the all-time NCAA Div. II record by over 30 seconds FRIDAY in Seattle.

Kurgat broke the previous record set by Neely Spence of Shippensburg set in 2011.

This is the second straight race that Kurgat has set a national record after running 9:07.05 for 3,000 two weeks ago.

 

UAA WOMEN’S BASKETBALL COACH RYAN MCCARTHY SET A UAA ALL-TIME WINS RECORD AS THE SEAWOLVES BLASTED SEATTLE PACIFIC 78-37 SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE ALASKA AIRLINES CENTER. MCCARTHY’S 177 WINS BROKE A TIE WITH FORMER COACH LINDA BRUNS FOR THE TOP SPOT.

UAA MEN’S BASKETBALL CONTINUED THEIR WINNING WAYS, AND CAPTURED THEIR SECOND STRAIGHT ROAD WIN AND FOURTH STRAIGHT OVERALL, 74-53 AT SIMON FRASER SATURDAY. THE SEAWOLVES MOVED INTO FOURTH PLACE IN THE GNAC WITH THE WIN.

UAA HOCKEY LOST 3-0 FRIDAY, AND WENT SCORELESS AGAIN SATURDAY, BUT GOALTENDER KRISTIAN STEAD HELD MICHIGAN TECH TO ZERO GOALS SATURDAY AND WON A SHOOTOUT FOR TWO LEAGUE POINTS. UAA IS OFF THIS COMING WEEKEND BEFORE BEGINNING THE GOVERNORS CUP SERIES AT FAIRBANKS.

 

IN HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY, THE COOK INLET CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT GETS UNDERWAY MONDAY WITH TWO GAMES. NUMBER 5 SEED SERVICE PLAYS NUMBER 8 BARTLETT AT 6:30 AT THE BEN BOEKE, WHILE NUMBER 6 WEST MEETS NUMBER 7 EAST AT 7:15 AT THE MCDONALD IN EAGLE RIVER.

 

THE ALASKA AIRLINES BOYS BASKETBALL CLASSIC WAS WON BY COLONY. THEKNIGHTS TOOK DOWN HOST WEST 63-34 SATURDAY NIGHT. SULLIVAN MENARD POURED IN 27 POINTS FOR THE KNIGHTS.
