Seawolves VB pair named All-America!

From Nate Sagan over at UAA…

LEXINGTON, Ky. – On the heels of a 23-win season and an NCAA Tournament berth, a pair of Alaska Anchorage players were chosen as All-Americans this week by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, with Eve Stephens capturing second-team honors and fellow sophomore Ellen Floyd earning honorable mention.

A right-side hitter, Stephens was a unanimous All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference performer for the second straight year and was voted all-region by both the AVCA and sports information directors. The Palmer (Colony HS) native led the GNAC with 3.90 kills and 4.70 points per set, along with a .260 attack percentage, 0.90 blocks per set and 2.27 digs per set. The GNAC Offensive Player of the Week for Sept. 16-22 and an all-tournament at the D2 West Region Showcase and the Seawolf Invitational, Stephens also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 honors with a 4.00 overall GPA in accounting.

Of the 28 honorees on the AVCA first and second teams, Stephens was one just four underclassmen (two freshmen, two sophomores). She becomes the seventh Seawolf to earn first-, second- or third-team AVCA All-America honors – all coming since 2008, Chris Green’s first year as head coach.

A setter, Floyd ranked second in the GNAC with 10.14 assists per set, along with fifth in aces at 0.44 per set. She was recognized for her all-around game as well, including 2.62 digs and 0.70 blocks per set. Also an all-tourney pick at the D2 West Region Showcase and Seawolf Invitational, the Pensacola, Fla. (Pensacola Catholic HS) product was tabbed AVCA Div. II National Player of the Week after helping the Seawolves to road wins over No. 4 Western Washington and playoff contender Simon Fraser in mid-November.

The Seawolves finished 23-6 overall and were runners-up in the GNAC with a 17-3 record. UAA made the NCAA Tournament for the ninth time in the last 11 seasons, defeating UC San Diego in the first round, before falling to nationally top-ranked Cal State San Bernardino last week.
