COUGARS XANDER MAURER AND MEREDITH SCHWARTZ WON SKIMEISTER TITLES, AND SERVICE TOOK TEAM TITLES AS WELL. WEST WAS SECOND AND SOUTH THIRD FOR BOTH GENDERS.

THE HOMER MARINERS CAPTURED THE STATE HIGH SCHOOL DIVISION 2 HOCKEY TOURNAMENT SATURDAY WITH A 3-2 OVERTIME VICTORY OVER PALMER AT THE MEARNS SPORTS CENTER IN WASILLA. HUNTER GREEN’S UNASSISTED POWER PLAY GOAL GAVE THE MARINERS THEIR SECOND CONSECUTIVE STATE SMALL SCHOOLS TITLE, AS THEY OVERCAME A TWO GOAL DEFICIT IN REGULATION TO FORCE THE EXTRA PERIOD. HOMER BEAT NORTH POLE 4-1 AND PALMER DUMPED SOLDOTNA 6-1 TO REACH THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME.

 

THE TEAM OF BRAD GEORGE AND ROBBY SCHACHLE OVERCAME A LAST-DAY DEFICIT OF 28 MINUTES AND WON THE 2021 IRON DOG SNOWMACHINE RACE SATURDAY AT BIG LAKE.

THE RACE COVERED OVER 24 HUNDRED MILES.

COMING OUT OF THE LAST CHECKPOINT OF PUNTILLA LAKE, THE TEAM OF BRYAN LESLIE AND CASEY BOYLAN WAS IN FIRST PLACE, BUT THE HARD-CHARGING GEORGE AND SCHACHLE TOOK THEIR SKI-DOOS TO ANOTHER LEVEL AND WON BY CROSSING THE FINISH LINE AT BIG LAKE AT 12:23, 32 MINUTES AHEAD OF LESLIE AND BOYLAN AT 12:55 ON POLARIS. THE TEAM OF MIKE MORGAN AND CHRIS OLDS FINISHED THIRD AT 1:14.
