PORTLAND, Ore. (Feb. 4) – Alaska Anchorage senior Hannah Wandersee captured her third Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s basketball player-of-the-week honor this season on Monday, following a standout performance in UAA’s road sweep of Western Washington and Simon Fraser.
The 6-2 center totaled 43 points and 10 rebounds, shooting 17 of 31 (.548) from the field and 9 of 10 from the free-throw line as the 11th-ranked Seawolves earned their 11th and 12th straight victories.
On Thursday, Wandersee led UAA with 15 points, along with four rebounds and two steals, to power a balanced scoring effort in a 74-55 win over WWU. On Saturday, the Kodiak native poured in a UAA season-high 28 points on 11-of-18 shooting, while nailing all six of her free throws in the 68-63 win over SFU. She scored 10 points in the final five minutes against the Clan, making all three of her field goals and all four of her free throws to help the Seawolves rally from a 54-48 deficit with 5:15 remaining.
The GNAC Preseason Player of the Year also took home the GNAC’s weekly awards for Nov. 19-25 and Jan. 7-13.
Wandersee and the Seawolves are back on the road this week to face Alaska Fairbanks on Tuesday (7 p.m. AST) and Montana State Billings on Saturday (5 p.m. AST). Both games can been seen live online at gnac.tv.
