THE FORT NELSON, BRITISH COLUMBIA MUSHER TIED SPRINT MUSHING LEGEND DOC LOMBARD FOR SECOND PLACE ALL-TIME, TWO BEHIND RECORD HOLDER GEORGE ATTLA. STREEPER’S THREE-DAY, 75 MILE TOTAL TIME WAS 4 HOURS, 30 MINUTES AND 4 SECONDS. FAIRBANKS MUSHER GREG TAYLOR WAS SECOND, THIRD WENT TO ROOKIE MUSHER MYA HARTUM OF ALBERTA.

 

THE FIFTH-RANKED UAA WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CAPPED AN OUTSTANDING REGULAR SEASON WITH A WIN SATURDAY, 60-47 AT CONCORDIA-PORTLAND. SENIOR GUARD SAFFIYAH YASIN HAD 13 POINTS TO LEAD THE SEAWOLVES, WHO GET A GNAC TOURNAMENT FIRST ROUND BYE INTO FRIDAY’S SEMIFINAL IN SEATTLE. UAA FINISHED THE REGULAR SEASON WITH A 29-2 OVERALL RECORD, 19-1 IN THE GNAC.

THE UAA MEN, MEANWHILE, WILL LIMP INTO THE GNAC TOURNAMENT AFTER CONSECUTIVE LOSSES TO WESTERN OREGON AND CONCORDIA-PORTLAND TO END THE REGULAR SEASON. THE SEAWOLVES QUALIFIED FOR THE GNAC TOURNAMENT AFTER A FAIRBANKS LOSS ON THURSDAY. UAA FINISHES THE REGULAR SEASON 18-13 OVERALL, 11-9 IN LEAGUE PLAY. THE SEAWOLVES WILL PLAY THURSDAY IN SEATTLE IN THE GNAC TOURNAMENT.

 

UAA HOCKEY DROPPED A PAIR OF GAMES IN FAIRBANKS TO END THE WCHA REGULAR SEASON. FRIDAY, STEVEN JANDRIC HAD A NATURAL HAT TRICK TO HELP THE NANOOKS TO A 5-2 WIN, AND SATURDAY FAIRBANKS SCORED SIX UNANSWERED GOALS IN A 6-1 ROUT. WITH SATURDAY’S WIN, FAIRBANKS CLINCHED THE ALASKA AIRLINES GOVERNOR’S CUP FOR THE 11TH SEASON IN A ROW, AND HOME ICE FOR THE FIRST ROUND OF THE WCHA PLAYOFFS AGAINST BOWLING GREEN. UAA MEANWHILE, WILL TRAVEL TO MANKATO, MINNESOTA FOR A FIRST-ROUND MATCHUP WITH NUMBER ONE SEED MINNESOTA STATE. THAT SERIES STARTS FRIDAY.

 

UAA GYMNASTICS SPLIT A PAIR OF HOME MEETS WITH SEATTLE PACIFIC, WINNING FRIDAY AND LOSING SATURDAY AT THE ALASKA AIRLINES CENTER. THE SEAWOLVES RETURN TO ACTION THIS COMING SUNDAY IN A QUAD MEET AT DENVER.
