SERVICE HIGH SCHOOL WAS THE SITE OF THE 50K TOUR OF ANCHORAGE CROSS COUNTRY SKI RACE YESTERDAY, WITH ROSIE FRANKOWSKI BLAZING TO A RECORD WIN AFTER AN ENCOUNTER WITH A MOOSE, AND TYLER KORNFIELD TYING THE MEN’S RECORD AFTER GETTING PAST THAT SAME MOOSE.

IN THE MEN’S RACE, IT WAS KORNFIELD, FOLLOWED BY THOMAS O’HARRA AND JC SCHOONMAKER. FRANKOWSKI, WHO FINISHED FIRST FOR THE WOMEN AND 12TH OVERALL AMONG 220 RACERS, WAS FOLLOWED BY BECCA RORABAUGH AND ANNA DARNELL.

 

AT THE WORLD CROSS COUNTRY SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS, ANCHORAGE’S SCOTT PATTERSON REGISTERED A TENTH PLACE FINISH IN THE 50K RACE, LEADING THE UNITED STATES EFFORT.

THE 29 YEAR OLD PATTERSON LED THE FOUR AMERICANS IN THE RACE. DAVID NORRIS FINISHED IN 16TH PLACE, GUS SCHUMAKER WAS 29TH AND HUNTER WONDERS WAS 37TH.

 

IN HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL FROM FRIDAY, THE EAST BOYS REMAINED UNDEFEATED WITH A WEEK TO GO IN THE REGULAR SEASON. THE T-BIRDS UPENDED DIMOND 63-48, GIVING HEAD COACH CHUCK MARTIN HIS 399TH CAREER VICTORY.

IN OTHER BOYS GAMES, SOUTH OUTLASTED SERVICE 58-49 IN OVERTIME, CHUGIAK KNOCKED OFF BARTLETT 67-51 AND WEST BUMPED EAGLE RIVER 53-48.

IN GIRLS GAMES, DIMOND GOT BY EAST 53-52. WEST WAS ALL OVER EAGLE RIVER 54-16. BARTLETT REMAINED UNDEFEATED WITH A 65-38 WIN OVER CHUGIAK, AND SOUTH DUMPED SERVICE 45-32.
