UAA Ski at NCAAs; UAA VB schedule revealed; Iditarod stuff

GEORGIA BURGESS LED THE UAA EFFORT YESTERDAY IN THE WOMEN’S GIANT SLALOM ON DAY ONE OF THE NCAA SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS IN NEW HAMPSHIRE. BURGESS TOOK 11TH PLACE IN THE GS, WITH SEAWOLVES REBECCA FIEGEL 19TH AND LI DJURSTAAL 24TH.

ON THE MEN’S SIDE, DIDRIK NILSON LED THE WAY FOR UAA FINISHING 21ST IN THE GIANT SLALOM. MICHAEL SOETART WAS 23RD AND MORO BAMBER WAS 25TH.

ON TODAY’S SCHEDULE FOR UAA, THE NORDIC CLASSIC-STYLE RACES.

 

THE UAA SPRING VOLLEYBALL SCHEDULE WAS RELEASED YESTERDAY, WITH 14 OF THE 16 MATCHES ON THE ROAD. THE SEAWOLVES, WHO HAD LAST WEEKEND’S MATCHES AT FAIRBANKS POSTPONED DUE TO COVID PROTOCOLS, WILL BEGIN PLAY MARCH 19TH AT ST. MARTIN’S. OTHER ROADIES INCLUDE MATCHES AGAINST SEATTLE PACIFIC, WESTERN OREGON AND CENTRAL WASHINGTON, WITH A TRIP TO HAWAII IN LATE APRIL. THE ONLY TWO HOME MATCHES ARE SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 26TH AND 27TH AGAINST FAIRBANKS. NO FANS WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE BUILDING FOR THE HOME CONTESTS, BUT GAMES WILL BE AVAILABLE ONLINE AT GOSEAWOLVES DOT COM.

 

NEWS FROM THE IDITAROD…THE FIRST MUSHER TO TEST POSITIVE FOR COVID HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THE RACE. VETERAN GUNNAR JOHNSON OF DULUTH, MINNESOTA WAS PULLED FROM THE RACE AT THE MCGRATH CHECKPOINT WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. CONTACT TRACING IS UNDERWAY. JOHNSON IS ASYMPTOMATIC, AND DID NOT COME INTO CLOSE CONTACT WITH RACE OFFICIALS OR COMMUNITY MEMBERS.
