UAA Volleyball gets huge GNAC win at Western Washington…and more

HUGE WIN FOR UAA VOLLEYBALL THURSDAY NIGHT AS THE SEAWOLVES UPSET NUMBER 4 RANKED WESTERN WASHINGTON 3 SETS TO 2 IN BELLINGHAM. OUTSIDE HITTER VANNESSA HAYES HAD 17 KILLS, AND MIDDLE BLOCKER KAYLA MCGLATHERY CONTRIBUTED 13 KILLS AND 5 BLOCKS TO THE EFFORT. WITH THE WIN, THE SEAWOLVES PULL TO WITHIN ONE GAME OF THE FIRST-PLACE VIKINGS, AND TWO GAMES AHEAD OF THEIR NEXT OPPONENT, SIMON FRASER, WHO THEY PLAY SATURDAY NIGHT IN BURNABY, BRITISH COLUMBIA.

 

AT THE ASAA-FIRST NATIONAL BANK STATE VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT THURSDAY, WINNERS IN CLASS 4-A WERE SOUTH, BARTLETT, WASILLA AND DEFENDING CHAMPION DIMOND. THEN, IN THE WINNERS BRACKET, SOUTH KNOCKED OFF BARTLETT AND DIMOND DOWNED WASILLA.

IN CLASS 3-A, ADVANCING WERE KENAI, SITKA, HOMER AND DEFENDING CHAMPION NIKISKI. THEN, IN THE WINNERS BRACKET, KENAI BEAT SITKA AND NIKISKI UPENDED HOMER. PLAY CONTINUES THROUGH THE DAY FRIDAY AND CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES ARE SATURDAY AT THE ALASKA AIRLINES CENTER.

 

UAA HOCKEY FRIDAY AND SATURDAY HAS THE SEAWOLVES HOSTING BOWLING GREEN UNIVERSITY. UAA IS COMING OFF AN EXCELLENT 5 POINT WEEKEND AT ALABAMA-HUNTSVILLE, AND SIT IN 5TH PLACE IN THE WCHA, JUST AHEAD OF THE FALCONS.
