UAA VOLLEYBALL WRAPPED UP THE REGULAR SEASON WITH A 3-0 BLANKING OF SEATTLE PACIFIC SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE ALASK AIRLINES CENTER. THE WIN GIVES THE SEAWOLVES A SECOND PLACE FINISH IN THE GREAT NORTHWEST ATHLETIC CONFERENCE, ONE GAME BEHIND WESTERN WASHINGTON. SOPHOMORE EVE STEVENS HAD 15 KILLS AND SENIOR VANNESSA HAYES ADDED 10 IN HER HOME FINALE. UAA, RANKED NUMBER FIVE IN THE WEST REGION, WILL FIND OUT THEIR NCAA FIRST ROUND TOURNAMENT OPPONENT TODAY.

 

UAA WOMEN’S BASKETBALL WON A PAIR OF GAMES IN THEIR SEAWOLF HOOPS CLASSIC DURING THE PAST WEEKEND. FRIDAY, SAFFIYAH YASIN SCORED 19 POINTS TO LEAD THE SEAWOLVES PAST WISCONSIN-PARKSIDE 86-57. SATURDAY, THE 11TH RANKED SEAWOLVES DOWNED NUMBER 23 WESTMINSTER 69-56 AS YAZMEEN GOO DROPPED IN 14 POINTS. UAA TRAVELS TO FLORIDA FOR A TOURNAMENT THAT STARTS WEDNESDAY.

 

TOUGH LESSONS THIS WEEKEND FOR A YOUNG UAA HOCKEY TEAM AS THEY FELL TWICE TO NUMBER ONE RANKED MINNESOTA STATE-MANKATO. FRIDAY, BRAYDEN CAMRUD SCORED THE LONE UAA GOAL IN A 7-1 LOSS TO THE MAVERICKS. SATURDAY, GOALTENDER DRYDEN MCKAY STOPPED ALL 20 SHOTS HE FACED IN A 3-0 VICTORY. UAA RETURNS HOME TO FACE FERRIS STATE THIS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY AT THE SEAWOLF SPORTS CENTER.

 

AT THE NCAA DIVISION 2 NATIONAL CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS, THE UAA WOMEN, POWERED BY TWO TOP-TEN FINISHERS, ENDED UP IN 8TH PLACE. SETTING THE UAA PACE WERE EMMAH CHELIMO WHO FINISHED IN FIFTH PLACE, AND NANCY JEPTOO, A 10TH PLACE FINISHER. THEY BOTH GRABBED ALL-AMERICA STATUS, AS DID FELIX KEMBOI AND WESLY KIRUI ON THE MEN’S SIDE. THE TOP 40 IN EACH RACE EARN ALL-AMERICA HONORS.
