UAAwbb wins; UAAmbb loses; CIC hockey…

Senior Safiyyah Yasin and junior Tennae Voliva scored 12 points apiece and senior Yazmeen Goo dished six assists to help the 8th-ranked UAA women’s basketball team to a 68-54 victory at Northwest Nazarene last night. The Seawolves, now 22-2 overall and 12-1 in the GNAC, also got eight points apiece from Jahnna Hajdukovich and Sala Langi. With the win, UAA claims a two-game lead over NNU, Simon Fraser and Western Washington in the GNAC standings with seven games left in the regular season. The Seawolves stay on the road for one more game, facing GNAC preseason favorite Central Washington at 5 p.m. AST tomorrow in Ellensburg, Wash.

Niko Bevens scored 19 points and fellow senior Jack Macdonald had 16 points on perfect shooting but the UAA men’s basketball team came up short in a late comeback attempt last night, falling 92-81 to Simon Fraser in Burnaby, BC. The Seawolves also got 17 points and five assists from sophomore guard Tobin Karlberg as they tried to overcome the loss of leading scorer and rebounder Oggie Pantovic, who missed the contest due to administrative issues at the U.S.-Canada border crossing. The Seawolves will get Pantovic back in the lineup tomorrow when they face Western Washington at 6 p.m. AST in Bellingham.
