UAF’s Parayko gets WCHA All-Decade mention; Shamrock Shuffle winners

FORMER FAIRBANKS NANOOKS AND CURRENT NHL DEFENSEMAN COLTON PARAYKO WAS MENTIONED AS ONE OF THE WCHA’S TOP PLAYERS OF THE 2010 DECADE BY THE LEAGUE TUESDAY.

WHILE NOT MAKING THE FIRST TEAM, PARAYKO WAS LAUDED FOR HIS PERFORMANCE AS THE LEAGUE’S DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR TWO STRAIGHT YEARS, STARTING IN 2013, THE NANOOKS FIRST TWO SEASONS IN THE WCHA.

THE LEAGUE, IN ITS FINAL YEAR OF EXISTENCE, HAS BEEN RECOGNIZING PLAYERS AND COACHES FROM THE PAST 68 YEARS. SEVEN OF THE TEN CURRENT SCHOOLS ARE LEAVING AFTER THE SEASON TO FORM THE NEW CCHA UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF FORMER UAA ASSISTANT AND UAF HEAD COACH DON LUCIA, WHO IS THE COMMISSIONER OF THE NEW LEAGUE.

 

 

COLD BUT SUNNY CONDITIONS GREETED RUNNERS SATURDAY FOR THE ANNUAL SHAMROCK SHUFFLE 5K. ALMOST 350 BRAVED THE TEMPERATURES AT WESTCHESTER LAGOON, WITH DANIELLE PATTERSON AND PEDRO OCHOA SETTING THE PACE.

PATTERSON LED ALL WOMEN WITH A TIME OF 21 MINUTES, 31 SECONDS. KARINA PACKER WAS SECOND, LIA SLEMONS THIRD.

ON THE MEN’S SIDE, OCHOA TOURED THE COURSE IN 19 MINUTES, 31 SECONDS. BRIAN BUSCHELMAN WAS SECOND. THIRD PLACE WENT TO JEREMY SKEEN.

IN ADDITION TO THOSE WHO RACED SATURDAY MORNING, OVER 100 OTHERS DID THE MILEAGE VIRTUALLY.
