WE’RE HEADING INTO THE FINAL REGULAR SEASON WEEKEND OF HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL, AND AFTER NEARLY A FULL SEASON OF DISAGREEMENT, THE TWO POLLS FINALLY CONCUR ON WHO’S NUMBER ONE. BOTH THE ASBN AND COACHES POLLS AGREE THIS WEEK THAT THE EAST T-BIRDS ARE THE TOP LARGE SCHOOLS TEAM IN THE STATE. IN FACT, BOTH POLLS ARE IN SYNC THROUGH THE TOP FIVE. WEST IS SECOND, FOLLOWED BY SERVICE, SOUTH AND CHUGIAK. IN THIS FINAL WEEKEND, 5-1 EAST TAKES ON 6-1 SERVICE FOR THE COOK INLET CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP.

SMALL SCHOOLS, IT’S SOLDOTNA SETTING THE PACE, WITH THE STARS PLAYING RIVAL KENAI THIS WEEKEND.

 

UAA CROSS COUNTRY STANDOUT WESLEY KIRUI WAS NAMED THE GREAT NORTHWEST ATHLETIC CONFERENCE RUNNER OF THE WEEK. KIRUI FINISHED SECOND OVERALL, AND WAS THE FIRST DIVISION 2 RUNNER TO CROSS THE FINISH LINE AT LAST WEEKEND’S CAPITAL CROSS CHALLENGE. KIRUI AND HIS UAA TEAMMATES WILL NEXT RACE IN THE WESTERN WASHINGTON INVITATIONAL OCTOBER 12TH.

 

UAA HOCKEY ANNOUNCED THE HIRING OF TWO NEW STAFF MEMBERS. PD MELGOZA WAS NAMED A VOLUNTEER GOALTENDING COACH, AND TRAVIS WARD IS THE NEW EQUIPMENT MANAGER. THE SEAWOLVES PLAY THEIR ANNUAL GREEN-GOLD GAME THIS SATURDAY AT THE SEAWOLF SPORTS CENTER ON CAMPUS.
